our pediatrician told us to put olive oil on the scalp for about ten minutes then gently brush through it with a baby hair comb to loosten the scales, then wash the hair with an adult dandruf shampoo like head and sholders(yes its ok) then apply 1% hydrocortisone cream. Leave the cream on. Do this dailyy, best if done at night. it worked when nothing else would

I found the best thing to do is use baby massage oil (it is even more mild than baby oil) on baby's head right after a bath. Massage it in real well, then use a soft bristle baby brush and brush baby's scalp in a soft circular motion. You will notice a lot of scales come off using this method. It is best not to wash baby's head right after you get the initial bout of scales off, this way the oil has a good chance to loosen the really hard cradle cap scales. Then repeat the brushing after an hour or so, or if you put them to bed soon after her bath brush in the morning. My daughter had really bad cradle cap all the way to her eyebrows and doing this 2 times got rid of the cradle cap entirely and it has not returned. Just make sure to massage your baby's head every time you give her a bath, not only is it soothing but it will preven the scales from coming back.

Selsun Blue. You cant use this but like 1-2 time in a week because a baby's head is sensitive. I always just put a dot the size of a dime in my hand the size of a dime and used a little baby brush to massage it on the scalp. I only had to use this for 3 weeks and the cradle cap was completely gone.

You need to use the baby oil. Let it soak on for like 15 minutes..really oily too. Don't skimp. Then you need to use a fine tooth comb and gently scrape it off. It's just dead skin. You should have scraped it off before now.

As for the greasy mess, a few rinses with baby shampoo or soap will get that all cleaned up.

moisten the cradle cap with baby oil..then gently scrape it off. Don't hurt the baby, but the baby will cry. It's not cozy to be pinned down like this..but it has to be done.

Good luck.

I used Bert's Bees Apricot Oil, after a bath when she was still a little damp I'd rub the oil in her hair, let it sit about 10 minutes, and then brush it out with a soft baby brush. This helped her cradle cap a lot!

What I did was put Olive oil (because it's thicker) on her head and let it sit for about 5 min. then I brushed her hair with a baby bristle brush to loosen all the dry crusty skin and then washed with baby shampoo and I continued this everyday until it was gone make sure you brush her hair everyday after the cradle cap is gone so the scalp doesn't have a chance to build up again....

Actually, I found that it didn't matter what product I used, the thing that helped was the little comb I bought at Target for cradle cap. I just used the creme (I think it was the gentle naturals stuff) and just combed and combed away with it. When it came off, it really didn't come back. It was my last resort because hers was bad enough that her pediatrician wrote a prescription for it and I just didn't want to do that.

My 3 month old daughter has it too.
I put baby oil all over her scalp and leave it for at least 1/2 hour. Then I comb it out. Then I give her a bath and wash all the baby oil out and comb it again.
She has a lot of hair also, but if you wash it out really good, her hair doesn't look that greasy.

All baby oil does is sit on top of the skin. If you use olive oil, it will absorb into the dry skin, softening it and allowing it to be removed gently with a cloth.

At wal-mart they have a line of baby products called Gentle Naturals. Here is the one for cradle cap. They are all very good products.
