Actually the old testament does not claim that eating that apple is the cause of death. It is the cause of original sin, of being born a sinner, and being doomed to hell when you die. This is the essence of whole thing. The other things, such as being kicked out of eden, and women having to endure pain when they have children, etc. are just somewhat irrelevant side effects.
The question as to whether animals have 'sous' and whether or not they can be 'saved' was a logn controversial topic in the catholic church. Since Francis of Assisi was eventually made a saint, I suppose the verdict eventually is that animals have some degree of free will themselves and they can indeed be saved, or damned.
Its not actually something anyone 'did' that creates original sin. This is a pretty lame (albiet common) interpretation of the bible. It is the fact that humans have wisdom, which makes them doomed to be sinners.
The strange connection with virtue and long life is obviously (yet taboo as well as obvious, poor humans) a remnant of ancient egyptian dogma among the Hebrews.

You said to you that we die because Adam and Eve commited sin?
Death is the fate of every living being. This material world is not our home, we have to go back to our creator, that's why we die. The body is not our reality, our reality is our soul.
When God created Adam and Eve, He forbade them to eat from a tree, that was in paradise, where Adam an Eve lived. Satan lured then into eating the fruit from that forbidden tree. That was a sin. But when both of them realized, they asked forgiveness and God forgave them.

We do not die because Adam and Eve committed original sin, we die because we end of repeating the same patterns of disobedience by tasting the 'fruit of that forbidden tree' again and again. These Quranic or Biblical stories are not lessons from ancient history relating incidents of some certain moments in the time past; they decode the secrets of original human nature contributing to always present essential human condition. These are the things that are happening in human mind, soul and heart today, even right now. The scriptures in this sense are not obsolete. I am a Muslim, for example, and I believe in the true words of Noble Quran as valid and also live source of guidance for all my affairs with only due regard to what encountered the human race in its early history.
Animals do not have thoughts of death and when they die they die senselessly. They do not anticipate death with painful thoughts as we do, and neither their pain echoes in their minds with sensible thoughts anytime as it always does in case of human beings. This just to complete the answer to your question!

The concept that for somebody's sin you or me will suffer is wrong. If that is so God is doing big injustice. In all other religions individuals suffer due their own sins only, not for others. When there was nothing left Adam and Eve ate an apple .Is that the Sin?If God is all powerful why he created Satan?Creation of satan was the greatest sin.The forbidden fruit may be indirectly meaning sex.Even now priests consider sex as a sin.Adam and Eve might have done that only.

Death is not a result of Adam and Eve committing original sin. The life cycle was part of creation and was in existence before there was sin.

Because Adam and Eve sinned, they died in a spiritual sense. They moved further away from their Creator and felt guilt for the first time, they felt shame for the first time. Animals and humans die physically because their bodies get old and wear out. The dying mentioned in Genesis is spiritual.

In the Garden of Eden, there was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil that was forbidden for Adam and Eve to eat from. There was also a Tree of Life that sustained life and kept away death. It was not forbidden to Adam and Eve until they committed the original sin. At that time, they were expelled permanently from the Garden of Eden, meaning there was no longer access to either tree. By committing the original sin, they lost fellowship with God and brought into life the existence of death as a curse upon them. This curse extended to all living creations (plants, animals, etc.) at that time. Though animals and plants did not personally sin, they also have to go through death because humans are dominant over them. Therefore because death exists among humans, it also exists among all other creations because there is no longer access to the Tree of Life.
"Original Sin is the genetic defect we all inherited from Adam and Eve. Through this genetic defect we all inherited death -- both physical and spiritual – and were separated from God. Through Jesus Christ, we all have the ability to conquer this genetic defect – sin and death – and be reconnected to God eternally. Paradise was the original state of Adam’s garden on God’s “very good” earth, not millions and millions of years of death, decay, disease, and naturalistic trial and error. Jesus Christ picked the right planet – and thank God for that! "
Basically because death was introduced into this world, it takes its toll on all living creatures, thus following a universal law of life/death.

There was no Adam and Eve. There is no sin. We die because our bodies give out.

Everything must die in order to make way for the new. Imagine a world where nothing died; it would be overcrowded and boring to say the least. If the car you drove NEVER wore out, why would you get a new one, so you would drive a 91 Honda for all eternity. Death is the next step in life and no one can escape it.

Well, animals and plants weren't made from the image of God like we are. God wanted us to be like Him, but until they disobeyed Him in the Garden of Eden they became sinful and thus we all are born with the sinful nature and we physically die. I also think that the "death" here more importantly is the spiritual death we all will have IF we don't have Jesus Christ as our savior.
