He is 9 1/2 months old. It started bleeding a little bit because he hit it on a sharp edge. I was holding his sides while he was playin with the stuff on the shelf and i sneezed and he fell. He is fine now and laughing and babbling like "mama" and "bababa". .but i was wondering, what could I put on the edge to make it safe for now? I was thinkins about just cutting styrofoam.. but I wasnt sure how safe that was since it broke apart easily and he could swallow it. Any ideas?

What should I put on my sons head so it doesn't scar and will heal faster? I was thinking neosporin.. but i wasn't sure if it was too strong or if he rubbed it off of his head with his hands then put his hands in his mouth.. so idk. any suggestions?

The plastic corners they sell are just as pointy and sharp as the tables! My daughter actually got hurt from one of them. Your best bet and probably the cheapest - but some of those styrofoam tubes for swimming pools, cut them to length, slice them down the middle and use those. They are nice and round and soft! Good luck - he sounds like he's fine.

If the bleeding's stopped and the cut isn't jagged or gaping then clean it with some mild soap and water and put a little Neosporin and a bandage on it. (Granted, it won't stay on for long, but any bit helps - as long as he doesn't eat the bandage!) If the cut is jagged or gaping like a fish mouth - he needs stitches and go have them done NOW, since you have a 36 hour window from the time of the cut to stitch.

As far as the edge - you should be able to get rubber corners to put on them - they make them for tables, so they should come for a shelf too. Try a place like Babies R Us or Wal-Mart or Home Depot for them.

First of all watch for vomiting. If he gets sick go to the closest ER possible since thats a major sign of a head inj. You might want to check at Wal- Mart or Lowes and see if they make a rubber type contraption you can put on the corners. If he gets fussy dont be afraid to give motrin or tylenol the little tyke may have a headache.

As long as he isn't hurt then I wouldn't worry about trying to make it safe. After this fall he is going to remember that the shelf hurt him and he shouldn't go around it anymore. And anyways, why were you letting him play on the shelf. Thats not safe anyways.

I know babies-r-us had them and target or walmart might - they have table edger things for corners and sides of tables.

As for your son's head... Vitamin E is very good on scars.

Until you can get to the store, I would tape a small blanket or a towel around the edges.. Use duct tape as it is strong so he can't get it off...

You can buy plastic objects to put on sharp corners. I bought some from Walmart.

Go to babies r us or usa baby they have little palstic/rubber corner covers for tables and such they are fairly cheap and a pretty good investment to have with little ones.
