Last year I competed in 16 different teen beauty pageants, winning 13 of them. Of those 2 were National level, 5 State level and the rest were prelims. The 3 I did not win, I got 1st Runner up. I have been doing pageants for quite awhile now and every pageant system is different. Research the pageant you want to enter and see what those judges are looking for in a queen. Many are natural pageants while some are glitz pageants. It's important to know the difference. If there will be runway competition, practice working the runway until you are comfortable "strutting your stuff". Wear high heels around your house as often as you can so they are second nature to them. In interview competition, stay up to date on current events. When on stage, it is very important to look confident. Make the judges know that YOU think you are the best candidate!
Always maintain eye contact with the judges. Hold your head up..posture is very important. Be comfortable with who you are :)

Speak clearly, look fresh, be entertaining and pay attention to the winners and losers. You should know what the winners did and try to be just like that. Don't worry about losing, but you want to play you have to be the successful teens you see in the entertainment industry. Why? Because you don't know who is watching. There are talent scouts and agents everywhere and if you resemble the character they are looking for, they might ask you to do some work for them.

This is from a summer camp project. There were talent agents in the audience that later wanted her (Mischa Barton) to do an off Broadway play called Slavs!

The most important advice I can give you is to be yourself. The judges are just average people, and are ten times more nervous than you are! Being prepared for your interview is key. Your interview serves as the judges first impression of you, and first impressions are lacking. Just be confident in yourself, and you will succeed, confidence wins every time.
And HAVE FUN!
