If you are talking about 1/5, 1/7, and 1/4, 5*7*4 = 140 so the least common denominator (LCD) is 140ths.
Why?
You need to represent all the factors of all the numbers, which in this case is 1, 5, 7, 2, and 2. There are no repeated factors that you can "cancel out."
Here's another example - what is the LCD of 1/6, 1/9, and 1/10?
Here you need 2*3, 3*3, and 2*5. So if you pick 2*3*3*5, you end up covering all the denominators. So the LCD is 90ths, not 6*9*10 = 540ths.

There is no common denominator of 5, 7, 4. If you mean the least common multiple, the answer is 140.
