to pay in advance? Seems to me poverty is being used to excuse crime..which does require payment from the party involed along with those who pay taxes.

Any thoughts....
I think it has zero to do with poverty.

Your comment surprises me...

Poverty doesn't EXCUSE crime, it is part of the explanation why people commit crimes. And it's not the full story.

Poverty is only a part of it. Lots of very poor people work very hard and are very good people. The problem is that poverty and social problems go hand in hand.

Imagine you were born into a home where your parents are on drugs and don't care about you and/or abuse you. Your parents are likely poor because they are drug addicts and cannot support themselves. Poverty is part of their lives, but not the whole reason they are having problems.

Two scenarios:

A) Imagine giving those drug addicts a million dollars -would they suddenly become law-abiding good people? Of course not! Removing poverty does not remove crime and social problems.

B) Imagine being the child of those addicts: It would be hard for you to learn a good work ethic and make it through school. Statistically, it's less likely that you will achieve what the child of two successful, wealthier parents will achieve. Its also more likely the child of these people will be involved in crime, as there is likely no one who cares for them enough to teach them right and wrong, etc. Poverty is only a part of this.

I've always thought that if your biggest problem in life is paying too much tax, then obviously the rest of your life is going pretty well...

I think it is time you tried something else. How is zero tolerance working for you? Capital punishment? Having the highest reported imprisoned population in the world? The US still has a lot of crime.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I wouldn't say poverty is an excuse. But if you grow up poor, and uneducated and prospects for jobs in your neighbourhood are slim, you may accept an offer from the local drug dealer as he is the only one around with money.

I dont think that there is aq direct correlation between "pure poverty" "pure crime". what i mean by that is that there are always other factors.

poor distribution of wealth

freedom to commit crimes

double stands in dealing with matters in society, such as jobs, education...etc.

when you have a mojority of the people of lower economic class, lower education and a lack of power. If there are outside measures such as drugs and get rich quick schemes then thats a incubator for crime.

Crime and poverty go hand in hand. Poverty is not the only reason there is crime. There is tons and tons of research connecting poverty and crime.
