Remember when the money is yours it stays in the bank!Once you draw it from its origin it belongs to others!Never borrow money unless it is not for returns.

First off if you didnt get it in writing that he'd pay you back you need to forget about it. If you have no proof such as a letter or email where he acknowledges he owes you the money its gone learn a lesson. And finally IF you were to take him to court without any of the above mentiond the judge would look at it like "you didnt ask him for the money when you were dating" move on dont loan anymore money without a written agreement lesson learned

From Shakespeare's Hamlet, 1603:
LORD POLONIUS:
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
In today's words, do not lend or borrow money to or from a friend. You often lose both the money and the friend.
