UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) by definition are real and the government has never denied that.
Whether or not these UFOs are alien spaceships has yet to be concretely proved or disproved.
The existance of ETs also have neither been proved or disproved.
So most people would think our government crazy for admitting something that is only possibly true.
But that dosen't mean we should stop looking.

There would be a lot of questions. How long has the government known, what are the ET's like, that sort of thing. But the Sci-fi fans will wind up as king of the mountain because we were right all along!

Society would loose what little trust in government that they still have, because such admissions would be false. There are no ETs visiting Earth and UFOs are not ET space ships.

Scam artists would begin selling weekend trips to visit them, politicians would send billions of dollars to other worlds to fix the problems there, and all the school books would have to be re-written so you'd have to read them again!
Probably nothing major would really happen -- but you can bet a few new televangelists would start raking it in.

If they were real, we would have to build a roof on top of our walls to keep them out, because you know they would end up taking all of our jobs away, and they would work for less than nothing. Plus, they wouldn't pay taxes, and that would just cause so many problems here in the US.

There would probably be a movement to get rid of any government that was actually dumb enough to believe we are being vistied by ETs.

Frankly only sci-fi fans would care. The rest of us are too busy figuring out the issues that actually matter, like the war in Iraq, taxation, the social security crisis, etc.

I think society would really start getting scared. Everything might go into chaos... people start buying more weapons etc.
