Usually fair skies.

Note that higher surface pressure does not always mean warmer afternoon temperatures or no precipitation. Examples include the passage of an arctic cold front. Strong surface high reflects the very cold and dense air associated with this very cold air mass. Second example would be a shallow cold front moving toward the gulf coast and gradually lifting warm and moist air over the shallow cold air. The warmer and moist air would be lifted higher behind the front. So the surface pressure will be higher behind the cold front, but the skies will be cloudy with areas of steady light rain.

High pressure brings what we would normally call "fair" or "nice" weather. It causes air to sink, which disrupts clouds and leads to clear skies. This in turn causes higher daytime temperatures due to direct exposure to sunlight, but also lower nighttime temperatures due to radiational cooling, where the lack of clouds allows heat to escape more easily. Winds in a high pressure system are usually light, except when low pressure is very close; the pressure gradient can then cause high winds even within an area of high pressure.

In the Northern Hemisphere,a high pressure area, if it is a system of closed isobars,is called anticyclone.Winds blow in a clockwise direction round it.The pressure gradient is usually small and hence winds are light.Weather is usually fair in summer whereas conditions are favourable for formation of radiation fog in winter. The thick fog sometimes lifts and may form thick low cloud creating "anticyclonic gloom".
