I was 18. One of mine moved out at 18, another at 20 and another lives at college during the school year and with me during the breaks. I think it depends on the kid, but most of them should have a plan to be out of the house and have a job as soon as they are finished with schooling. Whatever schooling that may be.

I'm not a parent yet but I moved out at 19, a year after I graduated from high school. I went to NYC and got my own apartment. My mom wanted me to continue living with her and go to the college nearby and commute. She probably would have expected me to leave once I graduated college though.
My mother grew up in that time where you lived with your parents until you were married. She moved out of her parents house when she was 23.
I'd like to see my kids (if I have any) move out no later than around the age of 22 or so.

I was out at eighteen and never went back. My sisters are 20 and 25 and still live at home. Mine won't be unless they hit really hard times and need a temporary place to fall.
I think 18 is a good age to get out on your own, but I would consider letting mine stay longer if they attend college close by. As long as they're in school, I don't mind supporting them for a little extra time.

18 or 19 when they are going off to college. That is what my daugther wants to do, and we will encourage. As for me? Well, I had a little setback and had to move back in with my parents. Then I was about 23 until I was able to move back out again.

I moved out when I was 20 but I had no choice!
what is appropriate, if the child doesn't want to go to college, kick them out! If they go to college, they can stay until they finish!

I was 18 because I was going away for college. My daught could live with us until she graduates college if she wants to. I would rather she did that than try to work full-time & go to school full-time. If they aren't going to school, they still need to leave home around 21 or sooner. That's just my opinion
