main destruction on solomon islands, did not reach - ah actually they say only small surge of water reached the mainland of australia up in cairns - but they are predicting another major earthquake within next 2 wks or so, so be aware that there could be a 50/50 chance of another tsunami prediction to hit east coast of australia - I would not go to GBR yet wait for a few months or so, beautiful weather then.

The Solomon Islands tsunami was devastating on some of the islands and reached the eastern parts of Papua New Guinea where it did some damage. It was only 20cm high when it reached Willis Island, a weather station on the outer Barrier Reef and hardly noticeable when it reached the coast. The Barrier Reef protects the east coast of Australia from tsunamis. There was no damage in Australia or on the reef.
