It is an advanced version of an optical mouse. It will work on any surface except glass or a mirror. It is more sensative than an optical mouse and you can't see the light under the bottom of the mosue like you can an optical mouse. Now i have used a laser mouse i will never go back to optical again, they are more sensitive, precise, and don't have the annoying light on the bottom. Here is the laser mouse that i use with my laptop, it is great http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2135,CONTENTID=12004

The difference between a regular optical mouse and a laser mouse is the light used to track movement. A regular optical mouse uses an LED light in the optical engine, while a laser mouse uses a laser to track movement. The more dots per inch (dpi) a mouse can track, the more sensitive and accurate it is. A typical optical mouse tracks between 400dpi and 800dpi, while laser mice track more than 2,000dpi.

Neither is really better; it all depends on your needs and preferences. Unless you're a gamer or a graphic artist with a need for precise movement, you'll probably find a 2,000dpi laser mouse too sensitive. Many gaming mice, however, allow you to switch sensitivity levels so that you have precision when you need it but can revert to 400dpi or 800dpi for regular mousing.

Besides their tracking speeds, laser mice work on nearly every surface, whereas optical mice may experience trouble tracking on black or shiny surfaces.

Laser Mouse would be Advanced Version of Optical Mouse. It can have or it can represent more dpi ( dots per inch) And you wont see the light as in Optical Mouse.

It has its advantages, but i am not sure how better is it for normal computer use.

If you are into Hi End gaming then u can buy one.

As early as 1998, Sun Microsystems provided a laser mouse with their Sun SPARCstation servers and workstations.[16] However, laser mice did not enter the mainstream market until 2004, when Logitech, in partnership with Agilent Technologies, introduced the laser mouse with its MX 1000 model.

A laser mouse is simply a higher precision optical mouse (which tends to use LEDs).

Laser is made up of a whole bunch of LED lights and they move the pointer on the screen when the lights get activated by moving it. The plus is that there is no ball to get stuck or dirty. The lights are also set back a little ways into the mouse

it is a mouse that has a laser attached to its head in order to attack his enemies.

LOL a laser mouse is a mouse that does not have a roller ball on the underside. It instead uses a laser to detect the movement. Some people prefer these because gunk does not get stuck to it like a normal roller mouse.
