Do you wear clothes that make you comfortable? Or do you wera clothes that society wants you to wear b/c they are acceptable? There are lots of reasons that one would like to dress as the opposite sex... Most Tran's like to dress like that because they feel more comfortable in the clothes. Most transvestites, from the time the could realize it, know that they are Gay or Lesbian. My Girlfriend does not were women's clothes except for a bra and thongs. My ex-Girlfriend didn't even wear a bra or thongs. They felt comfortable like that. Men that dress in women's clothing are the same way. It makes the person feel like a whole person.
Some transvestites do not feel like them selves as a whole if they are not wearing clothes that project their self image. If a man feels more like a woman inside then he might start wearing women's clothes so that he can see what he feels like inside. Don't you match the way you feel by the way you dress?
Every one is female when we are conceived in the womb. Then the genes change after some time to make an Embryo into a male. and sometimes during this process extra hormones or not enough hormones will end up causing the person to feel more like a man or a woman even though their bodies say other wise. Thus in turn becomes the gay, lesbian, Bisexual, transgendered community. then there also the cases of people that have had some sort of ordeal in their lives that causes them psychologically to be come this way as well... either they didn't get enough attention from a parent or were molested or raped as a child or teen. there are still debates on which is more likely genes or psychology... But I feel it's a combo of both.
I don't know all the reasons but those are the main ones.

Speaking only for myself, ever since I was very small (around 4 or 5) I have always been drawn to feminine expression. I don't want to be a woman, meaning I don't want to have a sex change, but I often wish I had been born with female anatomy. The bottom line is, without trying to figure out why, the reason is: it feels like the thing to do and I enjoy it very much. If only society were more accepting.

1) To embrace the woman within.
2) To enjoy wearing things that are soft and pretty.
3) Gender presentation.
4) Relaxation.
5) To find an inner calm.
6) To better understand what women go through and have a greater appreciation of them (anyone who wears heels all day will know what I mean).
7) To be able to sit back and look at life through a different set of eyes.
8) Brings about a heightened sense of alertness.

well, since people are different, the reasons vary. There were some very good reasons listed above. Some of the reasons my friends dressed were:
1) Loved being pretty
2) Felt that make-up and women's clothes had more artistic expression then men's clothes
3) Women's clothes are usually made with softer, more sensuous materials
4) There's sensations to having shaved legs and pantyhose and silky cami's that are very tactile and pleasing
5) With the right partner, it can be very exciting to 'trade places' to a degree (and btw, a good number of crossdressers are NOT homosexual.)
6) It's embracing life unlike most people, who only know their 'own side of the fence'.

Its the way they feel they want to express their image. They feel that they belong to the opposite sex and since nature didnt give them that body(unfortunatly) they decide to at least dress dat way. Oh well who cares...not me...the other day i saw a really cute guy...and then i found out that he was a she. It didnt bother me at all.

I always thought it was the satin . . it could also be the internal desire to understand how a woman feels.

their are many different reasons to why we do what we do and everyone does for different reasons. i personally feel relaxed and feel it helps me reduce stress as does going to the gym. it also makes me feel sexy and pretty and i feel it helps me communicate and understand females better.
