Try Lirael, Abhorsen and Sabriel by Garth Nix. While unlike Alianne, Lirael is not bold or independent intially, she is also a sort of unintentional hero. I've only read Trickster's Choice, but it seemed a bit more lighthearted than the Abhorsen Trilogy. Still, I think you will like the character of Lirael very much in the books Lirael and Abhorsen. Sabriel is a strong heroine, also a queen, so you might like that, too.

If you do read them, let me know if you like them? I think Nix is an excellent writer.

Well, there's the Young Wizards Series, by Diane Duane, which is excellent -- strong female lead character(s), really good plotline, ect.

You might try the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, by Patricia C. Wrede. It's slightly more on the humorous side rather than action-y, but it still has plenty of action and intrigue and great main characters. Howl's Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones, is along the same lines.

I've found Mercedes Lackey's novels to be very similar in some ways to Tamora Pierce's, though Lackey technically writes for adults rather than kids. Try the Valdemar series--the Arrows of the Queen trilogy might be your best bet. Her Free Bards series is also pretty good. (Some of her newer stuff is more hit-and-miss).

I also second the Nix suggestion; the Abhorsen trillogy is amazing. The second book (Lirael) especially.

Tamora Pierce, the author of the Trickster series actually has a couple other series of books. You might want to check those out since you like this author.

Also check out Celia Rees, "Pirates" and "Crown Duel" by Sherwood Smith, or even Libba Bray "Rebel Angels"
