I also have 2 really nice empty journals. When I do my journal, I like to do it like a scrapbook, whereas I put pictures, stickers and cut-outs in it to express what I'm saying. That's really easy to do in a notebook, but I also have 2 brand new journals.
Should I start my new journal in them or stick to my notebooks?

Decide on a special time to begin one of the brand new journals, Easter? The first day of Summer? Joyfully anticipate the adventure.

I hoarded books-too-good-for-me-to-use for decades before daring to actually use them. It's a "trip" to consume them.

If a page is overly fat, remove all but the 1/4" or 1/2" next to the spine on the next page. See how things go. You can always do the next one in a notebook again instead and it'll be an "informed choice", rather than the same-old-comfortable thing.

I find that the spiral-bound journals are so much nicer to use, because if it is a hard-back journal with a spine, it will not expand at all, and if it does, it's likely to break the spine. So, my advice, being both a journaller and a scrapbooker, is...if it is a spiral-bound journal, you should be able to scrapbook it like you do your notebooks, but if it is a hardback, why not tear out those pages and put them in a notebook, and scrapbook around them? If you just bought the journals because you like those pages, you'll still have the benefit of both.

Stick to the old ones until they run out of paper in these , then move on to the newer ones.

You can use your new books, but consider taking out every other page to make space for the mementos that you paste in. then you can use the paper for othet projects.
