My laptop can recieve signals but there is some sore of IP error. What is strange is my roomate is having the exact same problem. There is no router or firewalls involved. Both the wireless and the ethernet are not able to release and renew the IP succesfully. Ive tried pinging and it also works. I cant reach any address on the internet anymore. What do I do? If my roomate did not have the same problem id think it was a nic card, But its dobtful since he has a totallly different computer. We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling driver and reinstalling IP stack. What is left?

The wireless router may have defaulted to a wrong setting, or has been cracked.

Try holding down the RESET button for 15 seconds on the wireless router, and reconfiguring it.

Talk to the owner of the building or a network administrator to reset the router for you. Somewhere in the building, there is a router, but it is probably under lock & key. Ask everyone you see until you find the right person to talk to.

If you don't have ANY router at all, and you're just plugged into your modem, how do you get internet on other computers??? How do you get wireless??
You need *some* kind of router. Is your modem a "modem / router combo"?

E-mail response or post as 'additional comments' {duckyquack2007@yahoo.com}

Also, if that doesn't work, the problem is probably located in the *computer* NOT the network. I will send repair info later if you need it.

What do you mean there is no router involved? The very first thing I would do in this case is reset the router...
So if you don't have a router, what kind of internet do you have?, do you have a wireless modem?

When you say you cannot relese and renew IP, can you at least release the IP, or are you stuck at a single IP?

Also try this:
Start>Run - type 'tracert www.yahoo.com' without quotes. Are you able to reach router?(Assuming there is one involved), are you able to reach modem?, are you able to reach ISP?

Wifi without an Access Point / Router? How are two of you sharing the internet connection?

Call your ISP to fix everything.

Try and roam to another wireless network.
