well there are two ways of playing chess.
1.---in 1 if a pawn gets all the to the other side then it will only turn into queen no matter if u have 1 or not .in computer it is always of this type.
2----but in second way if the pawn reaches the place of a knight it will turn into a knight only. which means it will turn into any piece provided it reaches the desired place
There is a little difference in the way of playing both games

Normally, you want to promote the pawn to a Queen, and yes, you may have multiple Queens on the board at the same time.
To promote to a Rook, Bishop or Knight is call underpromotion. That is rather rare, especially since you can't mate with only a King and Bishop, or a King and Knight. You only underpromote in cases when a Queen would lead to a forced stalemate, or where you can deliver checkmate with a Knight move.

It is the persons choice who moved the pawn to the 8th rank which piece the Pawn becomes. Usually people will pick Queen. And yes, you can have multiple queens on the board.
But seriously, you could pick any other piece as well for it to become as long as it's not a pawn or the king.

Yes, to both questions
You can promote a pawn to a Queen, a Bishop, a Knight, or a Rook of your own color, even if all your pieces are still on the board.
FYI: When a pawn is promoted to a Bishop, a Knight or a Rook, it is known as an underpomotion.

this sounds crazy but you can have 9 queens on the board at a time, when u get a pawn to the other board just make it a queen and turn a captured rook upside down to make a queen

There is a little confusion here. The rule states that if a pawn reaches the back row of the opposite team you may exchange it for any of your captured pieces. Choose wisely though because this piece is it. The only way to change is to move another pawn to the row. Hope this helped have fun playing

i love chess. from time to time i'm the carry close of the board. Others, illiterate toddlers college me in strategic strikes. nevertheless, i love it. also, ornamental checkers instruments are nevertheless merely fancy poker chips on a chess board.
