I loved Depo. One shot every 13 weeks? That was the best part. I also did not experience any side effects like weight gain or bleeding, but then again, my dr. had me take the Pill without skipping the sugar pill so that I would no longer have a period when I got on Depo. I have heard friends say that they had heavy bleeding when they got on Depo, maybe I didnt b/c my dr. stopped my periods with the Pill first.

I took Depo for 10 years. Pros, you don't have to worry about birth control for 3 months. However, still be safe having sex unless you are in a comitted relationship. They say the cons are weight gain but I actually lost weight when I was on them. Also, if you ever want to have children, depending on how long you take the shot, it took me 2 years to get pregnant after I stopped taking them. I loved the depo. I never really had any side effects or anything. They are great.

Thanks to depo I gained 65 lbs in one year. Let me break that down. Thats 5.42lbs a month, 1.36lbs a week, and .19 a day. Let me know a diet that helps you lose that same amount of weight in the same time frame. I had no sex drive and mood swings. Took nearly 2 years to get pregnant. I only took depo for about 15 months.
also read the question thats a couple after yours "whats wrong with me?" Another typical depo horror story!
If you have had a child before one BC you would LOVE (which most everyone who has it does, including me) is the Merina IUD.

Pros: no periods, once every three months you get a shot.
Cons: weight gain, loss of libido, horrible mood swings, you need a bone density check after five years of being on it because it screws with your bone health, you could be bleeding for a month straight or not at all and have odd spotting whenever it feels like it.
I will never EVER ever ever recommend the Depo Shot to anyone. I was on it for four years and I am so glad I am off of it. I am on Kariva (pill) now and have had NO weight gain, NO horrid mood swings, and NO loss of libido.

IF you smoke, do not get depro. Your risks for depro are about the same for any contraception which uses hormones, that is, blood clots in the legs and lungs, stroke, heart attack (which increase if you smoke or have diabetes). Heavy bleeding, irregular bleeding, mood swings, acne, etc.
Just google the name depro-provera and that will lead you to the company's web site which describes the side effects.
