could be the timing chain, but more than likely it is the cause of a faulty spark plug, distributor, or plug wire. could also be a short on the ecm

Most likely canidate without any other info would be your plug wire is leaking or arching out somwhere else, check it on a dark night, wear gloves (unless you want to be suprized in the worst way) and follow the lines, if you see any spark, thats your issue. Check the plug for fouling and such as well.

A vacuum leak causing a lean condition in that cylinder.?
(vacumm hose came off)

Bad spark plug?

Bad injector?

Loose spark plug wire?

some simple things such as bad spar plug, bad plug wire, clogged or faulty fuel injector, bad distributor cap

need to do a compression test...to determine more serious problems

well the car is going to lose power, and you will force the other 3 cyl, wich can result in blowing the hole motor.
