On older model vehicles it did because there were less digital and computerized electrical systems but now days the actual mileage on the odometer is coming from the ECM
(engine control module)

You need to review a repair manual for you car. I think it depends on where the cable is. If it's in front, no. Even if you tow from the back, the odometer won't go backward. If it's in the back, probably yes. On newer cars, they have corrected this issue. A quick answer would come if you check odo then go up and down the street and check it again.

I'm not sure it matters much, unless you're going 10,000 miles.

No on newer cars that have a VSS electronic signal that drives the odometer. Older cars with a manual tranny that use a cable, yes. Cars with automatics can't be towed that way, unless the driveshaft is disconnected..

if the transmission is engaged, on an older vehicle, where the speedometer is on a cable, then yes. If it is a 4x4 and the transfer box is in neutral (not just the shifter) then prob not. If it is electrical and the car is off, I dont know, but I doubt it. Disconnect the battery if it does....

i own a shop and yes it will add miles to it if its a rear wheel drive vehicle and the rear wheels are turning,most people today pull little front wheel drive cars on a dolly and it don't add miles to them,because the front wheels are off the ground and not turning,good luck with it,hope this helps.

If the drive wheels are on the ground.(tow bar)Yes.

Not every one has a new car.
