College courses require you to put in the preparation and effort that your high school courses did not require. In high school, your teachers told you basically what they wanted in plain language. College professors want you to show that you belong in their class.
If you want to pass and master your courses, then you should devote at least two hours to each subject you have. An easy way of doing this is to review and study everyday. For instance, if you have english and psychology on Tues. and Thurs., go home or back to your dorm and review the information you just learned in class so that you don't get overwhelmed. Spend about an hour reviewing both of those classes (but remember to take a break, cramming does not help you pass). Once you finish reviewing start going over work that you have for the next day's classes. This way you will be prepared before you walk into the classroom.
You have to make sure you find the right study method for you. Some people do well reading 20+ pages of notes while others can read a few and understand what is going on already. Whatever you decide to do, good luck this year.

Two and a half hours of real concentrated reading, thinking and writing a day is enough. You'll be attending classes; that's hard work if you're a good listener. You'll also need to spend half that much time organizing, reviewing, doing first drafts of papers, reading lighter material, practicing, etc. If four hours a day on a day you have classes won't do it for you, killing yourself with overwork won't either.

About 3 hours a day is good for studying, but if your thinking about college then you should study for maybe 5 hours. I know it may sound like a lot but it ain't too much.

A general rule of thumb is that you ought to study two to three hours for every one hour in the classroom if you want to master the material.

i think you should spend atleast 30mins a day but it's not likely that you will ahve the time with all the stuff that you will be doing so just make sure that you understand everything that you need to understand, study for tests, do reading assignments, and ask your professors questions

Until you know the material you are studying.
