I am aware of this, but am clueless as to what to do. It sure looks like he was used as a pawn in anti-American propaganda, and in the long run that will probably HURT the country, and not help it. If I was travelling I would put Nicaragua on my list of countries to NOT visit... or spend any money on. I believe the state department is putting pressure on them to re-open the case, but "ignorance is ignorance" no matter where you find it.

Perhaps his arrest was only politically motivated.

Think about the prosecutors fired by the Justice department. Apparently they weren't prosecuting the right kind of cases. Nicaraguan's could worry about the same kind of abuses in their legal system. Nicaragua could be worse than the U.S. in this regard.
