What's the surprise, this country has been supporting nuts for the last 6 years...

I love pork...the meat!

One has to understand that the Federal Government collects trillions of dollars every year. That's a hunk of money.

It's too early for me to do the math (some will give that answer) but it's over a million dollars per day.

It is a challenge for them to spend that money...but their intent is getting votes from their constituents.

Whether you like the President or not, he was instrumental in reducing taxes...that denied Congress from adding more pork!

The peanut butter Pork...it's a joke ...except for the peanut butter companies.

I need an answer from a math major! Am I correct that it would take about 10 billion dollars a day to equal about 1 trillion dollars?

I guess the logic is that $75 million for the peanut storage...is in fact, "Peanuts"...as compared with trillions of dollars each year.

People bring this up constantly without talking about the details. There was a farm bill signed into law in 2002 that guarantees certain subsidies in the form of loans to farmers. The peanut crop is used as collateral for that loan and it needs to be put somewhere. The funding you're referring to is what congress is obliged to provide based on the 2002 law.
BTW, the Dem's weren't in control when the 2002 bill was enacted.

Compared to the 1.2 Trillion dollars spent on the Iraq war, that $75 million is peanuts. Besides, the stored peanuts would come in handy if we're are being attacked by nature or by a war disaster. Peanuts are good protein food for feeding starving Americans! Besides, even the majority of children love their nutty taste! :-)

Well there were 10 "pork" items added to the apprropriations bill for Iraq! Eight of 10 were attached by Republicans!

$388.9 million for a backlog of Department of Transportation projects;

$165.9 million (including $60.4 million for salmon fisheries in the Klamath Basin region) for fisheries disaster relief;

$75 million for salaries and expenses for the Farm Service Agency;

$48 million in disaster construction money for NASA;

$25 million for grants through the Safe and Drug Free Schools program;

$25 million for asbestos abatement at the Capitol Power Plant;

$24 million to sugar beet producers;

$22.8 million for geothermal research and development;

$20 million for reimbursements to Nevada for “insect damage;”

$12 million for Forest Service money requested by the president in the non-emergency FY2008 budget

$3.5 million for guided tours of the Capitol;

$3 million for sugar cane; and

ALL BUT TWO were attached by Republicans!

The president is vetoing the bill which provides money for soldiers -- readiness, health care, armaments, etc and a timeline to get out of Iraq.

Don't be fooled. It has nothing to do with pork, as ably discussed above by the answerer named "map."

Yes, that pork was attached to the Iraq spending bill just pushed through Congress, but don't worry it will get vetoed.

How about the $100 Million for the Democrat and Republican Conventions? Now that is one hell of a party.

Yes this is to guard the peanuts. Can't keep those little devils in one place, they run away shouting it wasn't me.
