i agree that their standoff is a bluff, the soldiers had done some thing wrong and the britain have to solve it with iran by talking like any other problems. i think britain want to abuse the situation, the soldiers were wrong and may be they did it just to abuse it and have a show for the people in britain to hate iran

The United States and Great Britain continue to ignore the lessons of history. There is no point expecting the Iranians to respect the rules of international diplomacy, since they never have and never will.
Never mind the embassy and hostage crisis that destroyed Jimmy Carter's chance at reelection, and wished the Reagan/Bush regime on us. That is recent stuff. Consider the fate of Marcus Crassus.
He trusted the Parthians (as they were then called) to respect his person during negotiations. They held him down and killed him by pouring molten gold down his throat.
We are talking about a society that evolved on different lines than ours, and has practiced by its own rules for millenia. The Old Man of the Mountain and the Hasheeshans were killing for Allah when Paris and London were centuries away from ondoor plumbing.
It is now necessary for every country in the world to break off diplomatic relations with Iran. Not all will, or course, but the effect increases with each one. if I were Castro and Chavez, I would do so to demonstrate to the Americans that we actually share more values than disagreements.
As for that sabre rattling moron Bush, he needs to go on the air worldwide and explain that unless the sailors are released by a given date Iran will be bombed flat, and to advise every Irani to get out of town if they are unwilling to die for Allah. So typical of the buffoon that he can't do the right thing when it is actually needed.
Open the borders with Iraq and Afghanistan. Let all the noncombatants out, and hold them in camps until we have sent the mullahs and their supporters to the mercies of Allah and their ninety nine Virginians.

Iran used to be a western leaning country in the 70's. Bra less Girls in mini skirts used to go to university in Tehran. Unfortunate, the Shah was connecting better with Europe, then with the USA. No no, can't have that, said the CIA and flew Khomeini in from his 20 year exile in Paris to Tehran, supporting a revolt. Khomeini had his own ideas and threw the CIA out, as soon as he could. Same like Sadam, Osama and other Despots, Iran is a powder keg Made By USA, to justify the existence of the Pentagon.

Unlike Iraq, Iran has a standing army. Just think of a few years ago, when Iran captured the Americans at the US Embassy, and held them for over a year. two attempts were made to try and get them out, but both failed. Eventually they were released, but not by military force. It happened through diplomatic means. The same will happen here. The UK even with the US support doesn't have that large of a standing army (an army in reserve who can deploy anywhere at anytime) to attack Iran.

Of course we could take Iran...but it is not a path that we really want to go down...
It would turn the world ugly real quick!
Something that I don't think that anyone wants.
Iran knows this and that is why they are playing this little game.
EDIT TO ADD----
To those that think that we couldn't...please remember that we have enough "ammo" to make the entire ME disappear if we wanted. It has nothing to do with "manpower" or "troop level"....
Our technology is far superior than any other country in the world...
I am speaking as a US citizen...but we have their back and they know it...

There is no "stand off"with Iran.
There are talks going on to return the Brttish Soldiers that were captured by the Iranians. The Britts are very tough people who do not let emotion/nor public opinion get int heir way of making decisions. The Soldiers need to be returned today or Iran will face dire consequnces.

Anybody Who believes that we the Brits could not wipe out Iran is wrong in that thought! but however we would prefer not to have our actions dictated by others and most certainly not by Iran, who wants nothing more than to spread the conflict in the ME to cover up their mismanaged leadership.
We don't broadcast our intentions on CNN unlike the US days in advance.Britain if it wanted to can call on many other nations to support any actions that may be being planned.

The British have nowhere near the troops in Iraq than we have, leaving most of their military free!
All of ours are in Iraq, and those who aren't are on their way back, violating a promise of a year between tours! We are also not allowing people out of the service whose contracts are up.
I think only an idiot would attack Iran over a few sailors that Iran isn't going to harm anyway!
