Man what a great year of wrestling! I'll go with the WWF because they had so many great storylines and stars as well as some of the greatest matches ever that year. You had HBK "losing his smile", Bret losing to Sid on RAW and turning heel with his infamous "THIS IS BULLSHIT" speech on live tv, weeks later reforming the Hart Foundation and setting off the entire USA vs. Canada angle which was huge. You also had some other great stables like the Nation of Domination, who had some notable incidents like their feud with Ahmed Johnson, Rocky Maivia turning heel on the fans and joining them, hence becoming "the Rock", and so on. And last but not least, you had the best feud ever, Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart. The submission match at Mania is one of the greatest matches ever and their feud seemed so "real" and was a friggin war.

Other big moments from WWF 1997 include: 1st ever Hell in a Cell match with HBK/Taker at Badd Blood, the whole Paul Bearer/Taker feud in which Kane was later introduced (Bearer was so evil and great that year lol), and of course the Bret/Shawn feud which ended in Montreal via the infamous screwjob. DX was also formed in late 1997. 1997 WWF was the best ever!!!!!!

WCW was on top of its game in 1997. Here is how popular it was, all my friends who grew up watching the WWF didn't even bother to pay attention to them anymore, everything was about the NWO, Sting and Hogan. However the seeds of change were slowly being planted in 97.

Anyone that says WWF/E is crazy. During that period WCW was in the midst of a 84 straight week winning streak over Monday Night Raw which means for 84 straight weeks they had more viewers. The nWo helped WCW run 1997. People lie, numbers don't and the numbers show which program was better during that period. Be honest not a fan boy.

WWF....The NWO was old News by then and doing the same stuff over and over again...The Bret/Shawn Feud was one of the best Feuds ever in Pro Wrestling....Besides the fact that Steve Austin had Just became one of the Best wreslter's and Entertainers in the WWF...

WCW.. no doubt. The nWo made WCW. Without the nWo, they wouldn't have stood a chance. WCW also had the black and white Sting, which helped as well.

WWF was better then, but both were great compared to the quality of WWE programming currently.
