This is just another example of the difference between British English and American English. In the U.S., "spelled" is preferred. Across the water, I think "spelt" may be the preferred spelling, or at least equal to the first. Both are acceptable in standard English. Oh, and BTW, spelt is also a kind of flour.

RE:
How do you spell "joyce" ( I know that's not the right spelling)?
To help you understand what I'm talking about, I'll use it in a sentence. "The size of the floor joyce is 2" x 8" x 8' and was the main support under the subfloor".

"Spelt" is not a an American word, here it is "spelled." I do not know if it is an actual English word. There are some differences between American English and British English, so as I said it could be correct where you live. You should check a local dictionary to find out if it is listed.

A joist, in architecture and engineering, is one of the horizontal supporting members that run from wall to wall, wall to beam or beam to beam, to support a ceiling, roof (or floor). It may be made of wood, steel or concrete.
