Ok, this is what you need to do:

Step 1. Forget commercial products like Nero ! While being a fairly decent cd/dvd burning package, this program is terrible for decoding copyright protected movies, because they suck up to RIAA and Bill Gates

Step 2. Ignore any "trial" or "shareware" crap. Most of these programs are not worth even looking at let alone paying for.
Occasionally there are exceptions like AnyDvd but even it croaks when it comes to the latest protection by Sony.

Step 3. Download RipIt4Me. (As i was trying to find a link for you i found out that the site has actually been shut down).
Just poke around the web for the latest version 1.7.1.0. I found it on www.majorgeeks.com

Step 4. RipIt4Me also requires 2 other programs to work: DVD Decrypter (v.3.5.4.0) and DVD Shrink (v.3.2.0.15) You can get both of them here fileforum.betanews.com Older versions of RipIt4Me also require FixVTS but it has been integrated into 1.7.1.0 which is why you should get the latest version.

Step 5. After all 3 programs are installed, copying ANY dvd is a breese. Just start RipIt4Me and choose either wizard or
1-click mode and let it work. Worked on 100% of all dvds I copied, even the ones all my friends said they couldn't rip.

Have fun and enjoy the free world :)
P.S. To all the legality people out there: I think this is a wrong group for you. This person simply wanted an answer to his question not unsolicited legal advice. So save the "pirating is illegal" remarks for Mr. Bill Gates. Im sure he'd love to hear them.

Realize that as a DVD holds 4,700 mb of material, and a CD only holds 700mb of material, you will have a fun time fitting a DVD on to a CD. The CD can only hold about 8-10 minutes of DVD quality video.

But most important, ripping a copyrighted DVD is a crime. You can be fined or even jailed for doing it. So you may want to think carefully before doing it.

You can't, but if you mean to burn a protected dvd to a dvd-rw you might try using a program such as cloneDVD.

To download the latest version of Nero for free you can click here http://bit.ly/WhvTqj

In the past, Nero was just software for burning CDs and DVDs, but over time, Nero has evolved into a complete multimedia suite that's both stable and high quality, suitable for both an amateur and semi-professional user.
