I have an outside water tank that I keep 3 normal goldfish in at the mo, they love it, will the two fancy goldfish be ok outside? One is the boggley eye type and one has a large belly (sorry about the lack of technical language!)

You probably can, provided you make sure your fancies get enough to eat as one answer already suggested.

I'd also suggest that you make sure the water doesn't get too warm for them. If your tank is glass, the sun may overheat the water inside. You may also have the same problem if the container is one of the black fabricated garden ponds.

If you use some floating plants or something from above to shade the water and reflective colored material on the outside (if this is something above ground) you can keep the water temperature a little cooler.

Check the water temperature before you add your fish - it should be at least 50o, or the fish aren't able to properly digest their food. And acclimate them to the pond slowly with bags (just like from the pet store to your tank) like the one answer suggests.

You can put the fancy's out side however watch when they eat to ensure the faster common goldfish are not hogging the food. Fancy's tend to be a bit slower.

Also, be sure the tank is not over crowded once you add the two new fish. Pump and filter will help.

That really depends on what types of fancy goldfish you plan on keeping there, and what type of decor you have in your tank.

If you have bubble-eyes, or a similar delicate breed, I wouldn't move them outside. They are just easier to care for in an indoor environ as they have real problems with their vision. Also, if you do move them into the outdoor tank, make sure there are no-sharp edges on rock, plants, or any other decor as they can easily damage themselves.

If it's simply a fantail, telescope (depending on the severity of the telescope), or similar fancy, then you'll be fine.

Also, Dee is completely right about adding them using the bag....

No goldfish need cold water they may die unless every day u float a bag of ice on top of the water that will keep it nice and cool

the large belly could be a pearlscale, but nt sure. i keep cold water fancies and i wouldnt put mine out ever. if the japanese do then they probably use heated pools, fancies have a slower metabolic rate and cant keep up like your regular gold, sarasa and carp types.

Yes and they will be very happy there. The Japanese have whole ponds filled with them and they survive just fine.
