I currently have a dog run between my shed and a tree, and is about 25feet long. A dog run is a wire between two points up high with another wire connected so that it can freely glide along the longer wire overhead so that the dog has a large area to ...freely... roam.

Well I would like to move the run so that it can be 50ft long, but the shed is not tall enough, so I was wondering if it is a good idea to install a metal screw hook onto my house's roof to connect the line. If I seal around the hook there should be no leaks, but I wonder if the pull of the wire and the dog tugging on the line will damage the house?

Is this a good idea at all? I don't want to damage my 2 yr old house. The roof is shingle, and where is the best place for the hook, I have no clue where studs are.

Could you go a little lower and run the eyebolt in the facia board instead? Or the soffet? That way you aren't taking a chance on a leak with the roof. Either borrow or buy a stud finder and then pre-drill the hole and then install the eyebolt.

I have a dog run attached to my shed but I installed a 4x4 post to the side of the shed first. Then i attached the trolley to the post and it is plenty high.
