Billy Joel is a great musician and I love his music. But I would have to cast my vote for Elton John. I think he has more albums/songs awards, gold & platinum records etc., than Billy Joel, plus Elton has been knighted by the Queen. Whereas Billy Joel hasn't recieved any recognition from any president that I know of. He might have performed at the White House, I don't know but he wasn't given any sort of offical title or medal for his work. To my knowledge George M. Cohan is the only musician/playwrite/songwriter etc., to recieve any kind of official recognition from the president, and that was the Congressional Medal of Honor for his WWI song "Over There." Elton John's best songs were great but few and far in between and most of them when he had Bernie Taupin write his lyrics. Billy Joel was more consistent by producing many 'good' songs but were any really 'great'?
