Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Alpha is the first. So alpha and omega are shorthand for "the beginning and the end". The candle is for funerals, and so only deals with "the end" part of the term.

In Microsoft Word or other word processor, type in a capital W. Highlight the "W" and change the font to "Symbol". This works for all other Greek letters, both lower and upper case, but you just have to find the right corresponding Roman letter.

Type 03A9 / 03C9 then press Alt+X
before you move the cursor.
03A9 = Ω
03C9 = ω

Edison c d is correct, hold alt then type 234, but the 234 must be typed from the NUM pad.
