how long do these contractions last before sending me into real labor?

went to dr. and i was still 2cm, so they said to wait it out at home until the contractions become unbearable or my water breaks...

contractions just keep continuing, and are pretty regular...

how long does this go on before i go into active labor?

It depends. My labor started on a Thursday and I had regular contractions but that afternoon they stopped. They started again Friday morning and I went into active labor at noon.

If yours continue to be regular and don't stop then you truly are in labor and with time (it's different with everyone - could be 2 hours could be 24 hours) they will begin to get stronger and more intense and painful.

Your doc told you right. When it's hard for you to talk on the phone about the contractions (or when your water has broken) it's time to do to the hospital!

Best of luck.

If you're concerned, go back to the doctor.

Really, there's no way for you to tell, unless you want to reach in to see how far you're dilated. (Unpleasant, at best!)

I had regular contractions that continued to get closer and closer...They were less than a minute and a half apart when I was turned away from the hospital the last time...because I wasn't dilating. (I started going to the hospital when they were 5 minutes apart.)

When they were finally under a minute apart, the hospital kept me. I'd only dilated another 1/2cm...to just over 3cm. They broke my water, and in less than ten minutes, I'd dilated to the full 10 and had a baby!

Best of luck, and congratulations!

well, it could last as long as 4 months lol, as I was in labor from 5 months along until I actually had my baby, at 2 to 3 cm....but again I was only 5 months along. you sound like your fully ready at 9 months right, so if you want to speed the process up alittle , walk walk walk, this will help the contractions come faster longer and help open you more after you reach 4 cm, they have to take you in, there is no stoping labor contractions after 4 cm, and they can't stop the baby either,if you sit or lay down it will stop contractions, so if you want this baby to come go walk around your house do chores, walk up and down stairs, jus walk do not run do not jump do not jog, just walk, and it will be over quickly lol, good luck and I pray for you during your labor and I welcome the new baby into this world.....

7-9 cm, from what i remember...... when the water breaks, go for it.... if they're talking unbearable contractions, that really sucks! wow... but a lot of women are 2 cm naturally (from where the baby 'drops') the last few weeks leading up to labor.

How far apart are they? If they are less then 5 minutes then you should go to your birthing center or hospital. Or if they get so bad that you feel you can't handle them.

If none of the above try to relax, go for a short walk, take a bath do what ever you feel most comfortable.

Good luck to you and your baby, hope everything will be as you wished it to be xoxox

The same thing happened to me except mine were 5 minutes apart. My doc told me it could last up to 12 hours though...but I was basically told the same thing-wait until they're unbearable, my water breaks, or i start bleeding...
if you have any doubt, you should definitely call your doctor first instead of going all the way to the hospital to be sent back home...
good luck!!!

It shouldn;t be too long, and will probably move pretty fast once it does. Go walk a flight of stairs a few times. The rocking motion it gives the hips sometimes will help settle the baby down farther into position. Good luck and congratulations!

They say you should get to the hospital once the contractions are 5 minutes apart. But if your early...I wouldn't really wait.
