when crude oil is refined i know it is broken down into a variety of products, what i want to know is do you only get 1 barrel of products for 1 barrel of crude?or is crude oil like a concentrate that yeilds much more product for each barrel?

Volume is volume - the most you can get from a barrel is a the capacity of one barrel, but you're more likely to get less volume of end product(s) because there are impurities refined away.
