Aside from one of my answers a couple of weeks ago I thought I was the only one to know about this. Now "sensible" makes another reference to an additive to a dogs food and water. Years ago (1975 geeeze !) I got a puppy and it started making yellow spots in my landladies gorgeous lawn. Rather than banishing my pup from the lawn, she suggested adding 'baking soda' to the dogs drinking water. She said it only worked with females and I can't remember the exact amount but one teaspoon per gallon seems to "ring my bell". It worked like a charm that entire summer until we moved and I quit using it. It never seemed to hurt the dog who lived to the over ripe age of 14. Now I'm very curious whats in the pet store version, may be just baking soda and preservatives with fancy names to throw us off. Please run this past your vet to make sure I'm not trying to "Eukanubate" your dog!! RScott

If it is your dog, try a pet store. They now have a product you put in the dogs food that is supposed to make the urine more "grass friendly".

You can't. My gardener said that dog urine kills grass, period!! There is nothing you can do. He suggested a dog run that way only 1 area of my yard is ruined.

use lime on the grass to "sweeten" it. it actually changes the ph level of the grass. whereas urine is acidic, this will help counteract the balance.

When you see the spots, scrape with a rake, sprinkle grass seed, water and everything fills in very nice.

apply garden gypsum to the spots and water well. the chemistry of the gypsum helps offset the toxicity of the urine.
