Neither - Jesus was born in Bethlehem, in present-day West-Bank territory, occupied by Israel.

He was definitely born in the Holy Land. The Bethlehem story is probably a myth though, to fulfil the prophecy in the Book of Micah. The taxation story is definitely untrue, as neither Bethlehem nor Galilee was part of the Roman Empire at the time.

Well congradulations, you figured out that Jesus, and even the early Christians, considered themselves Jews. It was only after the early Chrisitians were banished from the Jewish temples that a totally seperate identity arose. As for your question, the answer is clearly neither, he was born in Bethlehem.

Like what the others said he was born in the town of bethlehem and he is Jewish since it is clearly stated that he was born in bethlehem because in the start of most of the gospels his long genealogy is mentioned and his father Joseph had to go to Bethlehem since his direct ancestor was King David and Bethlehem was his hometown.

Born in present day Palestine. He was a Jew, and he set out to reform Judaism - which got him into trouble, as all dissent is inclined to do. All dissent may not be new wisdom; but all new wisdom is initially dissent. We could do with a lot more of it these days! Go in peace, and thoughtfully, avoiding dogma of all kinds, and questioning all authority, my wise old Grandpa taught me.

In Bethlehem - and yes, of course he was born a Jew. He was, in fact, a Jewish Rabbi!
