Cables never work properly, you can buy external hard-drives that are very low in price. Try www.ebuyer.co.uk

Take the hard drive out of the old computer, and temporarily put it in place of the CD drive in the new computer. Boot the computer and you should be able to see the old drive as a second (D:) on the new computer.

Drag and drop any files you want over to the new hard drive.

When done, remove the old hard drive and reconnect the CD drive. Out the old drive back into the old computer.

Remove the hard drive from the old computer, set the jumpers to slave mode, install into the new computer, verify the new hard drive jumper is set to master. Boot up and you will have all your files transfered.

You can get either an external usb drive, or if your older computer doesn't have that, you may have to get an external cd-rom like one call the backpack

You will have to use a crossover cable.

But better yet if you have usb on both systems, purchase a pendrive they are very inexpensive for a 1gb, less then $20.
