I think the name flying saucers have changed because there are different shapes than circular space crafts being sighted in the sky, so using the UFO(s) are more common. If you would like to read about different shape crafts, I have a link on my blog along with my UFO stories, paranormal experiences, and other people accounts.

Hmm...this seems like a no brainer question
UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object
It's unidentified
Flying Saucers would be Saucer shaped.....
So now most UFO's shapes are Unidentified
Hense the name Unidentified Flying Objects

Well...the term UFO is suppose to be the general term you call something flying in the air we can't identify. If we called it "a flying saucer" it's no longer a UFO since we'd be identifying it.

Well for one thing have you seen the size and shape of the Aliens in the movies now...saucers are flat ! There is no way that they could fit with those heads without the teacup that should be covering them. So they would have to call them the flying tp's (tepees) LOL
