Who would you say is one of the overrated musicians ever and why? You can include a band, soloist or anyone associated with the music industry.
My obvious answer would be Tupac or Biggie Smalls, but I'm going to go against the obvious and probably really tick some people my age off.

I think Nirvana is completely overrated. Keep in mind that I love them. I own everything they ever came out with, and I listen to them at least once a week. I just remember when they first came out and everyone was so impressed with this new "sound" coming out of Seattle, and all I could think about was that I'd been listening to this kind of music for the last 3 years or so. I listened to "grundge" at least way before these guys were played on MTV. Soundgarden, Motherlovebone, temple of the dog, etc.

My own personal belief is that Nirvana is nothing compared to The Beatles, and they did not change Rock and Roll in the 90s, the movie "Singles" did.

I like U2--but highly overrated.
Aerosmith is overrated.
Led Zeppelin are "gods" but overplayed on the radio.
Nirvana--great band...but they didn't even want to be overrated.
Elton John--he's everywhere, on tv, the newspapers, etc..etc...and you can't escape him or his music!!! Enough!!! He's overrated and over-inflated.
Justin Timberlake--OVERRATED!

Bob Dylan is great...but NOT overrated. Dylan is voice may be weathered but that's what the music is a bout he is a poet/journeyman.

I totally agree with you about Nirvana..they are one of my favourite bands, yes..but had kurt not died so young I don't believe they would be thought of as legendary nowadays. Also, coming from England, I would have to say that Oasis are the most overrated band EVER! Here they were lucky enough to come along at a slow point in British music where there was not much competition, that's the only reason they did well..they are terrible! Total beatles rip off..with a gorilla for a lead singer..

Well I personally think Michael Jackson is to overrated. He is horrible to look at and alot of his songs just do not make sense. Like Beat if for example has got to be the most annoying song I ever had to listen to as a child.

1) the Pussycat Dolls
2) Ashlee Simpson
3) Jessica Simpson
4) the Spice Girls
These are examples from recent history of how corporations try to decide what people "should" be listening to. Large capita and demographics do not dictate talent amongst hackneyed sex-symbols. i could rant for paragraphs, as this topic really pisses me off.

Easy question. Almost all , except some of the early Rock ,is over rated. Hip hop is neither music nor is understadable, so you can say it is all over rated. Metal is only noise so it cannot be rated. If you don't agree, you are lacking in taste.

In my opinion, Britney Spears, she's okay but teenagers back then look up to her too much when there's not much to look up to.
