I have bought the corner protectors and they don't stay on. So, when my 2 yr old fell and hit below his eye on my end table I was freaking out. Now he has this HUGE scrape under his eye where the corner tore the first layer of skin off and now it is starting to bruise. I called my pediatrician and she said that as long as he's alert and there's no indentation or anything there is no need to go to the hospital. It only bled a little bit and now it is starting to bruise. Any suggestions?

Abruise cannot be " fixed " But he will be fine ! DO NOT freak out when a child gets hurt , it can only scare him and make things worse ! Even if YOU think it is bad don't let THEM know that ! Let the child react FIRST , often they won't even cry until YOU do , then they are only crying cause you are and they are scared ! If they do cry , tell them that it is fine and say calmly " A - OH , spaghetti - O's, and quickly change the subject . Keep an eye on the area that was injured without them knowing that you are doing so . They often won't even mention it again. At that age they will fall all the time and YOU CAN'T make it a "tradgity " EVERY time ! They will be afraid to do anything for fear of getting hurt , or just fear of seeing MOMMY cry ! Calm down , You will be fine and so will he . P.S. I didn't like those corner cover things either , I think they were invented by a MAN !

There's not very much you can do and your pediatrician is right, it's not harmful. Bruises will go through their usual stages of blue and yellow and green. You can try to lessen the bruising by putting something cold on the area, but I doubt a 2 year old will sit still and let you do that for long enough to matter.
