I tell my little sister to tell the manager, and because she is so cute and little, they usually end up giving her more than we put in the machine.

I usually go to the person in charge of the place where it happened and report it. If I can't find anyone I look to see if there is a phone number on the machine to report it to. If there isn't anything on the machine, write down the date, time, and place it happened, and call the vending company. If you don't know the vending company's number any of the products inside, such as pepsi, etc. should be able to give you a number to call. sometimes the local police department has a number or person to contact.

All vending machines have a phone number on the front or the side that is for customer service. If you report your money has been stolen they will have to reimburse you. However it hardly seems worth the effort to receive a check for $1.25.

There is usually a sticker on it somewhere with a contact number so I phone and tell them and get my money back.I'm not tight but if you think how many people don't bother to do it the company make a lot of extra money for bad service and if enough people did it they might ensure their machines were working properly.
If we took an item without paying for it they would soon be on our case.

I go into a rampage and turn the machine around, pull the back off and drag the little monkeys out and take my money back. LOL. I usually just fill out a refund slip and turn it in. No sense in getting upset, that won't help anything. =)

Assuming there's no way to get my money back... I would walk away with as much pride as I can, and learn from it. Just like when someone breaks your heart. Bang you fists as much as you want, but you don't need that unnecessary stress in your life, do you?
PS: I would also warn my friends about that specific machine.
