I’ve decided to make a new account and post this in multiple categories. Hopefully I will get a wide array of answers.
Am I right in assuming that a large percentage of you on this site are between the ages of 8-25? Well, what I've noticed is, when a member of said age group does not understand something, they turn to insults and things of the sort. I'm not saying many do this, I'm just stating that I've seen this very often on this site. Now I personally find this fatuity to be somewhat funny. It's just a major sign of childishness and lack of intelligence on their part. My question goes out to those of you who have also noticed this. Why do you think people do this?

I think some people like to prey on others vulnerabilities.
When someone asks a personal question they are making themselves vulnerable in a very public space - the world wide web! - and it seems like some people just go in for the attack.
It's too bad because it's a pretty neat forum and opportunity to share great ideas.
Then again, maybe they are just trying to rack up points and don't really care if they hurt someones feelings along the way.

I'm 33 years old and I come here to answer questions and hopefully help someone along the way. I have lived a tough life, had a lot of experiences and I hope that by sharing some of them, someone else will be helped or inspired. It may sound cheesy, but that's why I'm here. I have noticed that some people answer just to be rude or negative and find humor in other peoples problems. I think it's a sign of immaturity and sometimes I think people think they are funny when they're not.

To answer your first question I fit your range, I'm 17. 2nd question, I think ppl act the way they do on here because it is far more anynomous (sorry, spelled that wrong) than it is in the real world, so they feel they can say whatever. Some of them probably just say crap for the extra 2 points, I'll bet a few of them feel cool saying stuff to people, self esteem boost or something.

I'm actually under the age of twenty- above the age of 10, and I have never said anything negative to another person on here. There is no reason to! I think people speak negative of other people's questions and answers because we all have different points of view, opinions if you will of different topics, and its just a matter of understanding that.

i am 29 and all i can say is that no matter how open or understanding a person says they are, they are still intimidated by and scared of what they dont know and what they dont understand. besides that, the ages you are talking about are raised to be very competitive, more so than what i remember. this causes them to try to get some advantage any way they can, whether through insults or trash talking or whatever.

I think both nice and naughty people make this world go around. Without vice, are we capable of appreciating virtue in and of itself?
We still have to respect mean people as well as nice people. Without one group, I would probably take the other group for granted.

im 24 and i believe they do it to fulfill a negative aspect of themselves. it somehow turns into a need fro self-satisfaction to take their insecurities out on other people, i prefer to think they dont have the intellect to answer a good honest question like yours by example but there are other possibilities which i will looking out for. I keep you posted
