Pandas, Lesser Pandas and the raccoon tribe are closely related, unlike the divisionists that place the panda with the bears. They are not bears and certainly not close to the badgers. By their dentition and other morphological characteristics, they may deserve a class of their own but not being bears. I have spent six years in China observing and studying pandas and they are unique....and we are slowly increasing the numbers here, mainly at the Chengdu Research Center.

Pandas were once thought to be more related to raccoons than to bears, but recent investigation has found that they are bears.
Badgers or bears ... I don't think you'd want to get that close to one.
