when people you don't have feelings for anymore (but maybe it's not the case for them) can't understand your new feelings and even wish you to destroy your life...?

Can love be that selfish or is this about something else?

yes that is amazing, it's not love anymore at that point. It is a combination of petty things, anger, betrayal, jealousy and immaturity ♥

Love, true love, is never selfish. People's human nature is selfish. That's why I say "We were surprised when we found out that love feels just like pain" (that's from a favorite song but I can't find it on YouTube).

When people don't understand, sometimes it's best to just let them stay that way.....don't try to force them to understand...because some people will never understand. It's just the way we are, as humans. Most of human nature, human behavior, doesn't surprise me anymore after I've had time to think about it for a little while.

amazed? only that you would claim to have feelings for someone, and then decide that those feelings are suddenly gone, replaced by new feelings for someone else.

That sounds more like a case of good old fashioned lust, or just common old raging hormones and poor judgement.

Love (itself) is not selfish but

people can very often be extremely selfish,

often lacking little if any understanding whatsoever of true feelings of love.

yes, I think it's totally about something else.

some people are not in full control of their emotions, and letting something go that they think they need, love, or are connected to just doesn't add up in their warped little mind.

Sadly the only way to handle this problem is to tell them to their face (with several people around so you don't kidnapped, or something like that due to what ever psychosis they are living in) that it's over and done with.

Love isn't really selfish, it's blind.

Oh yes, much so, like when i hear on the news about the murder-suicide of the estranged couple in Washington state. Even out here in redneck heaven (Oklahoma) people are frequently doing bizzare things when relationships go sour (though they seldom rise to the seriousness of murder).
Be careful though. I fear that there may be many more crazy people out there than is really healthy for us and for society.

I believe it's a natural reaction called "shock"...it can manifest into something more destructive and often has....with time, if the one left behind was "real" , then the shock will disappear and in place is left good bye's

No...it's just that it's the death of a powerful emotion...they just can't let go. Try to ignore them and hope they meet someone new, because that's the best cure.

well, actually, I had this close friend, that even when we were close,,,she had no honest to God positive feelings about stuff...she just turned sort of "bland"...to me , that is sooooo boring!
Needless to say, I am no longer friends with her...for MANY differing reasons...but, that also bugged the daylights out of me! all of the time, too!
