No sorry. Keanu just wouldn't be able to pull off the role. I believe Keanu is a great action and drama actor, but he hasn't been able to succesfully really branch out in any other areas.
Depp seems to be able to carry off more different types of roles and really made Captain Jack Sparrow his own. Even the writers were amazed with his performance as on paper he wasn't like the character you see on screen now.

No, Reeves in good actor but just lacks the "X" factor (the one you just can put your finger quite on) to pull off the psycho, lovable, hateable and sexy all at the same time the way Depp does in the role. There is something intrinsic about Depp that no matter what role he is, not matter how much of a jerk he is portraying, that deep down, he is misunderstood and he cares.
Because of the above, I do think that Reeves is better able to pull off icy and emotionally detached better the Depp.
If Depp would pull out of the "Pirates", my second choice for the role of Captain Jack Sparrow would be Ryan Reyonlds.

No, just as Depp would never have been able to play Neo as good as Keanu. Some parts are just defined for certain actors and other actors can't play them as well. Depp is Captain Sparrow and Keanu is "the ONE."

I agree...Keanu is not fit for the role at all...don't think he could pull off the quirkiness or comedy of Jack Sparrow. Plus he just can't shed that surfer dude type accent. He's not as terrible an actor as some make him out to be, but that particular role is custom made for Depp.

No. Depp as Sparrow is a major hit and a perfect fit! I don't think the character would have the same impact if it was played by any other actor.

depp has something keanu hasn't and that is a crazy eyes look or something that is very important for portraying someone like jack sparrow. that look in his eyes is what has helped him and always lead him into playing troubled , weird or crazy parts.
keanu wouldn't have been bad but the result would be a more serious less crazy jack.

First of all I can't picture Keanu as a pirate.
Second of all Johnny made Captain Jack Sparrow infamous and unforgetable!
No one will be able to portray CJS as good as Johnny.

no keanu is a good actor but he doesnt have the presence like johnny depp has he is more stiff in his acing and jonny id more fliud and funny and romantic and quirky he can play a lot of different parts while keanu is best at playning one type of character predictable

I've never been a fan of changing actors in any movies. To me, it's just not the same. Julianne Moore instead of Jodie foster in the sequel of silence of the lambs, or Val Kilmer and George Clooney replacing Michael Keaton in the Batman movies. You got to stay with whoever made the movie what it is.
