I am from Bangladesh and I can feel your pain and agree with the wishful thinking of having seen 'stronger' teams qualify to Super-8.
It is very true that had there been India and Pakistan in Super-8 round then the 'charm' would have been better than what we can see now on the WI grounds ( a few hundreds of spectators) as well as less-than-enthusiastic approach on the SatMax commentators faces (Mandira Bedi in particular and Charu Sharma to some extent).
But I think the invaluable confidence generated and experiences gained by these minnows are much more than the loss-of-face by India and Pakistan through their early departure could dampen their spirit.
Therefore, I think it was a timely alarm bell for India and Pakistan to improve their matches as well as attitude and also harbinger of good news for the cricket loving fans from Bangladesh and Ireland.
See you again in next World Cup!

There is absolutely nothing wrong in the format. The format was made in such a way that all 8 major teams should be able to enter super 8 as 2 minor countries were included in each group. If India and Pakistan had won their matches against these minor countries they could have come into super 8. However, they failed to do so. Hence instead of blaming the format, one should blame India and Pakistan for their disasterous performance.

Yes .. they have 100% right to be there in Super 8. They are not there just by luck but they won matches in there groups to compete in Super 8.
India & Pak lost their matches in groups and have no rights to be Super 8.
As per giving fight to Super 8 opponent, India & Pak would have done worst than Bangladesh & Ireland.

Though I agree that India and Pakistan would have added charm to the WC but this is a reality that Bangladesh and Ireland were more deserving teams than India and Pakistan !and the proof is their Game against these teams.........They played great ....and only one match of each of these teams against India and Pakistan has made them deserving for super eight......What a pitty for India and Pakistan

I'm an avid India supporter, but I was horrified when I saw the way they played against Bangladesh....no fighting spirit whatsoever....it was pathetic and they totally deserved to lose. Its a competition, there are no second chances....you have to give your best each time. Its one thing when you've tried ur best but u still lose....there is some izzat in losing like that. But our team didn't even try to win, they didn't fight when they had the chance, so I don't know what charm you expect they would have shown against pakka teams like Australia & SA.
Bangladesh & Ireland deserve to be in the Super 8.....sure they're struggling now, but the important thing is they are at least trying to play the game to the best of their ability.

Both Bangladesh and Ireland went to second round by their performance in group stage. Both India and Pakistan played their worse performance. I don't think you should choose the second round candidates by their reputation rather than performance.

How the teams which failed to beat Ireland and Bangladesh claim to play better in the Super8.
Also Ireland has been playing pretty pluckily. Unlike Bangladesh.

Well they did qualify base on the points and the fact that they defeated Pakistan and India.
