Indians are most competetive within their team (some kind of basic instinct) , for attaining the feat against collegues , they are not concerned of the result and finally are non competetive against the opposition.
Team game needs team interest and not vested interests

Basically we stick to certain patterns like say for example in hockey, the dribble game(if u may call it that way), in cricket, the ball is meant to be whacked over the boundary. Even when rules are changed to suit the games of other countries, we go on sticking to the same pattern. We should learn to innovate in keeping with the changing rules and get the maximum out of it, while striving to preserve the base game. Secondly, the stamina of Indian players and athletes is far from satisfactory due mainly to under-nourishment from young age. But things are slowly and the Government is slowly beginning to realise that Sports and Games should be given their due in terms of development in all ways including financial aid etc. We may just hope that the face of Indian sport and performance of Indian sportspersons will show drastic improvement in the coming years.

You have thrown in a fine point.
We can play as a team when we are not selfish. I think Sri Lanka is the best in this respect. Just see Jaisurya, he does not have a fine average in ODIs but due to his confident, dashing approach, he has more often than not give his team a blistering start, sacrificing his wicket many a time in this process (due to taking risks). No one thinks of records when he thinks of Jaisurya, but his name brings a smile on our faces.
It is the approach. We are corrupt, we are selfish. We have to accept it. We think more of Pepsi money, Cola money, which we may earn by records.
Our records will be forgotten soon, not our approach.
Kabir, Gandhi never excelled in any techincal field but thier approach towards life was unmistakable-full of character. This is what we need in cricket also.

Indians are not athletic in nature.
I think thats the main reason. We dont play sports regularly from our childhood leave alone seriously. Our schools (with very few exceptions) does not give importance to sports in their curriculum.
Physically also we are not athelets.
So we dont succede.
Look at the great sporting nations like Australia, USA, Russia, Germany.....they have great sporting culture and which statrs right from school level.

actually your argument is not quite true...
If u look historically india is good in team sports in which skills are required... but as a game progresses towards the physical fitness, stamina, pressure from different sources indian teams start falling...
just look in case of kabaddi...
for so many consecutive years we are winning the world cups on skill level.. but once need for speed and stamina ll enter the game we'll lose here also...
as was the case with hockey..... for so many years we were no 1 in the world due to skill level but as the rules changed towards the favour of power and stamina we faltered...
same is in cricket... 10 years earlier there were not so much fielding requirements so we were somewhere in the top but as the fitness and power level of game is increasing we are going down...

:o how shocking!
No offense, but they cant afford to play many team sports and seeing as many indians are dying of incurable diseases their government has a waaaaaaaay more important things to finance in their country besides "the beautiful game" or athletics
