When I say “our”, I mean Human History.
Why is political correctness and fear of hurting people’s feelings more important than explaining how we became who and what we are?
Why is there a drive to eliminate facts that make people uncomfortable instead of making people understand what happened, how it happened and what needed to be done to change or stop it?

By eliminating things like the Crusades and the Holocaust are we not blinding our selves?
How can any one really justify altering history for the sake of personal comfort or political points?

Argle: do you ever think before you talk?
I see you are one of those people who want to white wash history for the sake of feeling good.

People learn from the past, you see your mistakes and the mistakes that came before that and you work to avoid them. Sorry there is no replay button in life.

Sarge: It's not just today, even when I was in school (14 years ago... yikes) there was an obvious lack of depth in history. Things like war were glossed over in a day.

Red: I am talking about world history not US history, I am talking facts not propaganda.
Crusades were factual, the holocaust was as well.
Things like the Lusitania can be debated forever, and that’s a good thing, but simply erasing history for the sake of feelings is what I am talking about.

People have been doing ever since there was history. Everybody wants to ignore all the horrid things that their ancestors might have done and offending people has become a capital crime. This is why all the bad sh*t in history keeps happening again and again.
Take the holocaust for example. At the end of WWII, everybody said "Never Again!" What a joke that turned out to be. At any given time, there is at least one group of people being slaughtered en masse by another group of people. People see it on the news, say "That's terrible! Somebody should do something!" and then change the channel to American Idol.
I think it's because most people are stupid. Our YA colleague ArgleBargleBlahBlah is a spectacular example. Worse yet is that these people are breeding at an alarming rate.

1. Censoring history makes propaganda more effective.
For example, when the German's sunk the Lusitania, UK and US made their citizens outraged with stories of the inhumanity and savageness of German U-boats. This prompted public apathy for England in WWI. However, they failed to mention that Germany had made formal notice that they would sink any belligerent merchant(armed or carrying ammunition), specifically naming the Lusitania. Passengers were assured there was no danger, Churchill knowing that if it was sunk it would likely bring more allies into the war. Lusitania was carrying over 5,000 cases of ammunition. Hence, she sank very rapidly. This was all after Churchill had been known for flying "neutral" colours on many other armed merchants and men of war.
But still today, everyone believes that the yanks and poms were playing a straight game to put down the "evil" German threat to democracy and safe travel. This propaganda has been applied to every non-capitalist nation to date.
2. When people forget history it allows others to repeat it. Americans fall into this "preserving democracy" lie too often. After Korea, they knew it was a lie. They forget and then they were in Viet Nam. They forget about that, and now they're in Iraq. It will go on and on.

Histor in American school, and pretty much most of the world is just propaganda. THe reason it is stated that we learn history is to prevent past mistakes. I have rarely seen any of Americas mistakes being taught in AMerican History. When Clinton invaded Haiti, I pointed out that we have already invaded Haiti half a dozen times to try to bring in a better government. Unfortunately few actually know this. All people use history to justify our actions rather than to actually learn.

Unfortunately that's happening in our schools today. History being taught is so irreverent that it can't hold a students attention.
Just pick up a grade schooler's history book and attempt to read it. There is no passion for what really happened just pablum to make everybody feel good.
I date myself I graduated HS in 1960 before PC.

I think the primary reason is the truth does not align with a socialist concept, we got here through hard work and a capitalist system.
Only socialists/communists need to rewrite history, honest people like the truth.

It's human nature to try to avoid taking responsibility for our mistakes. I'm training that flaw out of my children by giving them a standard statement to use when they do something wrong: "I know what I did was wrong. There is no good excuse for bad behavior. I'm sorry." They memorized it as a speech, so it comes out readily. It seems to be working for the most part, although there are still times when I have to coax it out of them.

Its so they can justify the actions of the victors, they have wiped out much of my people's hsitory as well , forinstance Thanksgiving was a celebration of a massacure of American Indians, not some fictional feast, Custer was in violation of the treaty of 1868 when we dressed him up in an arrow shirt! I could go on and on.

Well when reality doesnt fit the agenda I guess people make up a reality that does and then try to slide it in and replace the real history with their version of it.
