I drive a 2000 Mazda 626 and lately, the engine has been idling eratically whenever it's in drive or in reverse. When pushing down on the peddle, it revs roughly until I get to about 50mph. It was doing this a few months ago and replaced the sparkplugs and then it was smooth until recently, again. In fact, now, it's worse than before...if not the sparkplug wires, is there anything else it could be?

i would guess fuel injectors.
if you put little amounts of gas in your car....then probably all the junk at the bottom of the tank ended up in the injectors....obviously this is a guess since i haven't seen your car.

With all the sensors on it it is hard to say. You can take it to an Auto Zone and I think they read the codes for you for free. It sounds a little like the flywheel sensor. Good quality new wires can help too. You need to check your air filter too. Also a pressure check of your fuel line to the injector.

Sparkplug wires - cap and rotor ( be sure and replace coil wire and make sure coil socket is clean of corrosion )

It could be your timing. When you replaced the plugs, did you get a new distributor cap and rotor? That may be it as well.

Hope this helps!
