Yes definitely. I have 2 dogs and take care of my neighbors dog also about 4 days a week so I am surrounded by furry 4 legged creatures. Honestly, nothing can lift my mood faster than watching them play and just sitting with them by my side. A dog is a great companion and will end up being your best friend. They love unconditionally, are always happy to see you, love you no matter what mood you're in and are the most forgiving creatures on earth. They are also great listeners when you need someone to talk to and they are great at keeping secrets! A dog is a great idea for you if you are lonely.

Yes a dog would help you with being lonely. But if you are wanting to buy a pet to fill a place in your heart without seriously considering it is unfair for your dog.
A dog is a great companion and will always be loyal. But if you don't have the time, money, house for one then that just isn't fair.
Why are you lonely? Are you to busy to have a social life? Chances are you will be too busy for a dog.
Do you have time to walk your dog? Are you prepared to walk it in the cold weather? Are you prepared to train it? etc etc.
It's a lot more than just going out to buy a dog to fill an empty space. Work out why that space is empty first.

I am in the same boat as you are.....and have been thinking of getting a dog. Definitely I feel animals are more friendly and merrier no matter what. You dont see the negativity's that we could possibly experience with human relationships..such as.... conditional love, betrayal and so.
But again this cannot be a long-term solution. Dog can definitely help your situation of loneliness and may be even find you a human partner who also loves dogs....so 2 birds with one stone...hows that?
Like everyone else said...I also stress on the point that You need to take good care of your pet....they have feelings too.
Hope this helps.

Yes, having a dog would lessen your lonliness, but ultimatley having deep relationships with fellow human beings would be the best course of action. in a survey many said that deep, fullfilling relationhips ward off lonliness (duh) but also make a person much happier. now im not saying, dont get a dog ( i have one and hes great, sometimes when im pissed at everyone else i can talk and rant at it and it'll still wag its tail =P)
but yeah, work in small steps, try to develop bonds with other people as well. do you have a strong suit or something you've been told you're good at? join a local club and meet people with the same intersts. show interest in other people, try to be outgoing, remember people reciprocate positive actions, good luck

very much so. it is very good to have animal companions. just make sure you have the time to put into having a dog. they need to be walked everyday if you can and need a lot of love and attention. if you cant think of another animal like a cat or ferret (youll need to get its glands removed tho). good luck with your new freind!!
