Well I used to watch TV over 4 hours a day. It was an addiction. Then I got rid of my TV and I have not watched it for 4 months now. I am more productive and shed the pounds. I would get rid of the TV and lock it in a room where she can't get to it.

A good book , read by both party's at once and a moment to enjoy a laughter!
My husband won't even look at the news on television!
He reads or listen to music or would like to have a debate about world events such as global warming politics, he's a democrat , I'm republican. but we have a rule no arguments just healthy exchanges!
Turn the cable off this summer and ask husband to engage your marriage instead of television!
You just might be surprised at what happens.
Be happy , be healthy

I have a spouse that likes to be in front of the television when he's home, and I have learned that this is his way of tuning everything out. It has kind of a numbing effect on him and for him, it serves as a sort of neutral place; a distraction from all the stress in our lives... It is a problem, but it can be worked out!

Yes I have and the only way i was to brake the habit is to give him something better to look at and to do. Make a video of your self and stick it on the television. If you have to unplug the cable from outside then do so.. then every day before they leave make it so you are the only thing on their mind. You can use your imagination I'm sure! They get hooked because they are bored at home. Come on spice it up a little. get out of the house once in awhile. have friends over to distract him/her!

Mine is a playstation addict. Every night, after dinner, he would play his FIFA 2007 games till late. In my house, I have 5 tv sets so no problem. I can just go to the next room to watch my tv.

I had the same problem with my husband watching TV every free minute he had. All he cared about was watching DVDs day and night and didn't care about anything else in life.

So, I didn't disconnect the cable or get rid of the TV set.

I got rid of him.

Now, all my problems are solved!!

Get rid of the TV...don't afford another. There will be widthdrawl, but only for about a week or two. Its not going to be easy. If they understand that it is a problem, they should be more compliant to let it go. But, thats not usually the case. Its not going to be easy.

Smash the TV and then say it fell over while you were cleaning it. Even if it is only temporary solution, it might give them motivation to get off their butts.
